Sometimes, you find yourself in a place that feels like a painting. This time it was quite literal.

These gardens were Monet’s sanctuary, his ever-changing masterpiece. It was here, among the hanging willows and floating lilies, that he painted some of his most iconic works. His Water Lilies series wasn’t just a study of nature — it was an exploration of time, light, and the ephemeral beauty of the world. The way the water shifts, the way the sky bends in its reflection, the way everything feels both fleeting and eternal.

I could see why he was drawn to Impressionism — why he sought to capture the poetry of nature, not just in form, but in light, colour, and movement. Something you could feel the more you observed. I wanted to do the same, letting go of the intricate details I’ve come to add and appreciate in my work — emphasising atmosphere over detail, hoping to create something you can feel, not just see.
